But already it has one of the better link collections for lovers of film and Hollywood history. Please begin with our large page of Wikipedia links. Or take a walk through the "Historic Timeline" from our main menu to discover the ancient roots of motion picture evolution, going back thousands of years.

As best we can tell, the concept of motion pictures began as early as 300 BC and became cinema in 1888, just one year after Hollywood was born, unaware of these nascent film beginnings. By 1906, the short film, A Daring Hold-Up, was shot in Los Angeles. Then the industry that had existed for many years on the East Coast and elsewhere, began to center itself in Edendale before it moved up to Hollywood.

The town of Hollywood was born at the intersection of two streets now known as Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street where a farm once existed. Hollywood Boulevard was formerly Prospect Avenue while Vine Street was Weyse Avenue.
